August 7, 4pm. SOLD. Most reading this will not need to know about the fame of Zeiss optics, so I will not belabor the point. Many regard the 10x50 size optic as the ultimate hand-held astronomy binocular, and this unit really shows you the rightness of that opinion when pointed at a dark night sky full of stars. The hugely wide-angle effect of its Zeiss W.A. eyepieces produces a kind of "spacewalk" effect, like a Nagler, but the edges are soft with a nice central area very sharp and contrasty. Focus is crisp and sure. These are 1Q, meaning "first quality" and they show it. I bought them from a German who specializes in restoring quality Zeiss Jena porro prism binoculars. He had done the optical maintainance and collimation. Optical glass and Coatings are great, the only slight flaw is a couple very small hairline scratches on one objective that in no way affects the viewing. There is no case, but I could supply an oversize hard rubber WW II military case for $8 if you would like. I did locate, at great effort, four lens caps that fit, which is a nice addition to protect the optics. Cosmetically I would rate the exterior as good, solid "B," mostly just some worn paint, with the inscriptions all very readable. The small cover over the objective end of the center post is missing, so there is no serial number. I estimate these are early-Sixties to early-Seventies production. There is a nice, heavy leather neckstrap. I will be happy to split shipping costs with you. PayPal is fine, or postal money orders. I am in Oregon.
