The mirror is a Coulter which was recently realuminized. Excellent condition - no scratches or chips. Images are great with lots of contrast and pinpoint stars. In my Atlanta-lit backyard its aperture still brings out more faint details than smaller scopes. When taken to even moderately dark sites it really excels (the veil nebula becomes BRIGHT and easy to see even without a nebula filter)
The mount is comprised of Ebony Star formica bearings on Teflon pads, arranged to provide very smooth and equal movements in both azimuth and altitude. The bearings provide just enough support to allow switching between light 1.25" eyepieces and heavy 2" Naglers without losing balance. Casters are mounted underneath for ease of movement over paved surfaces.
The main mirror cell is a Novak 18 point floatation providing uniform support at all angles. A custom sling is installed to support the lower edge of the mirror so it does not distort from the typical 1-point loading against a mirror clip. A fan on the rear of the cell provides rapid temperature stabilization.
The primary mirror assembly unbolts from the main tube for easier transportation. A handle allows carrying this main mirror system as a suitcase. A matching Ebony Star mirror assembly cover provides protection during both storage and transportation.
The main tube is 3/4" marine grade plywood with cutouts to reduce weight. Very rigid, allowing transport without the need for more than a very minor recollimation. Several internal baffles are located to reduce glare from off-axis light sources.
A removable upper cage allows transport in small station wagons. It need not be removed to fit in most pickups or minivans. This cage contains a new 3.1" diagonal in a Novak spider and a 2" JMI Crayford focuser with MotoFocus hand controller.
May be picked up in the Atlanta area. $3,400 or trade for a fork mounted C14.
