I am selling this 10” Classic LX200 w/go-to for the widow of a physician and fellow amateur astronomer. She ask me to sell it for her as she knows nothing about astronomy. I was the planetarium director in her community for a number of years and a friend of her husband‘s. After the scope came to me, I assembled it and checked it out. Here is what I found.
The instrument is probably 5 to 6 years old. It is clean. There are a couple of minor scuff marks on exterior surfaces due to normal use but nothing serious. See photo below. The optics are excellent and provide nice contrast. I viewed Mars, Saturn, M13 (cluster), M57 (ring nebula) and M51 (Whirlpool galaxy). All looked good and typical of a 10“ instrument. The movement of the drives were smooth on both axis. When setting up the instrument for the observation session, I used “one star” alignment and it worked just fine. However, later when I attempted “two star” alignment the scope behaved as if it were in polar mode (only the RA axis tracked). I don’t know if that was a glitch or it is designed to function that way. I went back to “one star” alignment, and it worked fine once again. It uses software system 3.34L.
This sale includes the 10” telescope with hand controller, telrad finder, 26mm plossl eyepiece, tripod, and power cord. Pick-up in eastern North Carolina is preferred but will ship at buyer’s expense. The price for the package is $1500 plus shipping CONUS. Thanks for looking.
