The finest widefield film instrument that can be bought, and they
are not made anymore!
I am selling my 8" Celestron Schmidt camera (serial #0154) that is in excellent focus. The system includes;
- OTA tube has had a gas port added for N2 purge
- 2 no-filter film holders
- 2 filter film holders
- Parallax rings
- Heavy duty 24" long custom made Losmandy style dovetail plate
- Kendrick dew tape for front corrector
- cloth shutters (2)
- 4 home made roll film holders
- home made tools for winding film and other things.
- original instruction manual and trunk
- cases for film holders and other gear
- Wratten 92 filters cut for the filter holders
Best I can discern, I bought it a few years back an owner who had never un-wrapped it from purchase in mid 70s.
There has been no other mods done, it is in excellent shape, a few
paint nicks here and there but optically fantastic.
Below is a pict of what is for sale. I have a web site and if you contact me I will forward you a link to multiple picts done with the scope. There is a recent picture done at New Mexico Skies (November) showing overall image, and the extreme edges in high mag with focus.
Price? I need $3000 plus we can split the shipping and insurance or I will trade for a ST-2000XM with the 237H guider. I am drawn to the dark side as I have a difficult time getting to the dark skies that make this lovely instrument sing so I need to go CCD. It is a tough decision to part with this. It is worth the price to me!
It is of preference that I sell this in the local area so it can be picked up, as it must be known a Schmidt Camera has to be carefully handled for focus maintenance but this has held well in many trips in the car with no problems. But I will also happily ship it in the ConUS.
I will not ship this internationally though.
