I posted this telescope last year, and there were a number of responses to the ad, but no one was willing to drive to Houston, Texas to pick up this big scope. Now I am in the Austin, Texas area, and do not even have a concrete driveway, so this wonderful scope sits in climate controlled storage doing no one any good! I bought the scope in May, 2003. It was blue and orange then. The tube has now been painted a pleasant silver-gray by an auto body shop, and the mount has been sanded, primed and painted gloss black. Finder, focuser and motors original. Declination drive and RA drive working, but some "lag" in the dec assembly. The R/A drive has started "skipping" since this ad was last posted, but I have not pulled the back off the drive to see what can be done to adjust it (difficult to do in the storage unit). I had the mirrors recoated by QSP; standard overcaoted aluminum on the primary and endurobright on the 2.7" secondary. Bright, crisp, contrasty images. This is the Cave Astrola "Transportable" model on the roll-around stand with 1.5" steel shafts on both axes. This is not really a sufficient mount for the scope. I am told that they can be "tightened up" considerably with new gear sets, but as it is, it is difficult and frustrating for me to center objects at high powers, which is a shame, because the telescope gives fine images at high powers, and would make a great planetary instrument if the mount were easier to use. Otherwise it is a delightful instrument. I would keep the scope if I really thought I would get an observatory built in the next year, but that is starting to look unlikely, so I need to sell this oen and aquire a scope that is a little more transportable in the mean time. This is a lot of scope for $1850. According to Cave literature, this rig weighs over 200 lbs. I will not ship it, but would probably be willing to meet someone within a couple hundred miles. If you have any questions, email and let me know. I'm in no rush to sell, so if you have an interest but can't get down here until next month, drop me a line anyway and we'll work something out. Thanks for looking!
