For Sale: 15" F/5 Dob Swayze Optics in SoCal

Hello - looking for a quick and easy transaction in Southern California. I bought this Dob on Astromart in April of this year. The structure is homemade, with a quality of construction better than an Astrosystems Telekit Dob (the only other Dob I have seen to use as a comparison). It is a truss scope, with black aluminum pole trusses.

The mirror is a 15" F/5 from Swayze Optics. You are basically getting a brand new mirror - last month I sent it off to Mr. Swayze, who checked it out, gave it the thumbs up, and then sent it off to Spectrum Coatings to get a new recoat. The mirror is etched along the side (i.e. not the surface!) with the date of creation, and its original owner (Randy Hopkins), its focal length, and a serial number (proof of authenticity). Right now the mirror remains in its virgin state (still wrapped in the box from Spectrum).

If it helps, I am 6' 4" and can put my eye to the eyepiece flatfooted at the zenith (barely). However, I have never actually used it in the field.

The scope comes with Lumicon digital setting circles. Instructions are included, but I don't remember how to use them offhand (Randy demonstrated them when I bought it).

Basically this poor scope has been stuck in a corner for 8 months and needs a home - preferably someone with a lot of experience because I can't help much with details on how to use it.

I am selling for $2400 FIRM - this is below what it's worth, and I will take a loss not even counting what I paid for the examination by Mr. Swayze and the recoat at Spectrum. If you check my feedback, you will see that I am very fair, and have done transactions of this magnitude and greater many times before.

Sorry, I don't have pictures, but will attempt to describe it as best I can. If you want to stop by and take a look, I live in Newport Beach, California.

Thanks -

Ryan O'Grady
