The Carl Zeiss Jena Aspectem binoscope/binocular is a rarity and sells for a premium when it appears. In the early 90's, Docter bought the defunct CZJ tooling and designs and began producing updated versions of classic CZJ instruments. Last year I imported this Docter version of the Aspectem. It has proven surprising effective at spotting DSO's and gave me great views of Saturn last year. Now I'm selling it to make way for a new scope. The unit features dual 80mm f6.25 objectives with the outstanding FMC, high-spec glass for which Docter is famous. The eyepieces are the Docter 25-10mm "Vario" zoom's ($400+ each through APM) with click stop settings corresponding to 20X, 25X, 30X, 40X, and 50X. FOV is a constant 50 degrees and eye relief is around 12-14mm. The images this instrument presents are surprising sharp with very little false color at low power tending towards more color as the mag goes up to 50X. Even at 50X with careful focusing false color is not an issue on Saturn. Star images are quite sharp with very little flaring compared to most binoculars. The double cluster is quite a sight through these and Andromeda is something else seen at a dark location. The instrument comes with a Wolf wood tripod made in Germany and a friction-adjustable alt-az head as well as a fitted case for the scope. I tapped the bottom of the alt-az mount pin so it can be placed directly onto a photo style tripod with a 3/8"-16 stud on the center column rather than the Wolf tripod, if desired. Also, I made a 1/4"-20 adapter plate that can be bolted to the bottom of the binoculars in place of the alt-az head, thus allowing use of many other mounting options. Overall condition is excellent+ with clean optics and very few signs of wear. $1795 including PayPal fees and shipping within the Cont US.
