Meade LXD 55 AR6 OTA (6” F/8 Achromat – 1220 FL) w/ stock 1.25” diag, 8x50 finderscope & cradle assembly. Keeping “dovetail” mounting plate. Delivered new late Feb '03. Very satisfied with scope optics, need reduce weight & size.

Mods: 2 inch aluminum “Focus Knobs.” Look great & aid in fine focusing. OTA flocked both ends to 1st baffle w/ black felt. Dew shield & focuser flocked. Greatly increased contrast. Replaced focuser “sticky grease” w/ lithium grease. Objective perfectly collimated w/ cheshire.

Defects: 2 nylon screws that hold Finder to OTA broke, but both work. Meade sending new (2 wks) - will include if rcv'd. Several black “fingerprints” on OTA & finder -using scope w/ OFF on hands -plastic knobs melted. Scratches on dew shield & cap. Black lettering in “MEADE” scratched one side. Deep scratches & missing paint on focuser assmbly (scope rubbing against child seat anchor on long trip). All cosmetic.

Also: Ronchi test grate EP (254 lpi with yellow filtering) rcmnd'd for determining S/A needed for chromacor. Best I can determine (no expert!) scope is “null” scope (no significant over/under correction). Paid $75, will include for $35.

Also EP(s) for the scope. Orig. 26 mm Series 4000 Plossl Meade & Series 3000 Plossls (stamped Japan) about 7 years old 25 mm, 16 mm & 5 mm. $30 each (note I need to retain either 25 mm or 26 mm).

My experience: Primarily planetary. Mars routinely observed 295X, often able to go 377X. Views memorable. Saw Olympus Mons & wealth of detail. For false color stacked filters, improved contrast & eliminated “purple haze.” Jupiter not take power as well. Used 244X &often 295X. Detail easy in EQ bands, turbulence in wake of GRS, detail in GRS, festoons. Moons clearly discs. Cassini & other detail easy in Saturn rings. Banding on planet.

If not local sale (South Florida), buyer pays shipping as invoiced by UPS or US Mail (CONUS) (original packaging).
