This is one of the older/better/ very good condition; Meade Newts with a nice criterion mount and single axis drive. The focuser is a metal/ smooth 1.25 rack and pinion. The Tube does not look like cheasy cardbord like the new Meades, and is more substancial than thin metal....nice and smooth gelcoat. At F6 you don't have collimation or coma problems like shorter F ratios, and the 8" size is still manageable given the appropriate F6 focal length. It is more of an over-all scope than a 10" F4 for both planets, and DSO. It has a thick Pyrex mirror in a sturdy cast machined cell that cools down better than a plate glass mirror. The secondary is a perfect size 1.8 inches, so it has "minimum/ correct obstruction". The rig is quite portable given its capability, and can handel the higher powers (300 plus) better than a Dob as it is on a sturdy Criterion GEM mount. Mars with a looked pretty good.... as well as the usual D.S.O. stuff. $550 for both; (plus shipping) Thats a great price for someting with optics/ quality this good....... Mike
