17.5" Newtonian telescope, designed and built by well known (for awesome optics) S.F. Bay area optician Earl Watts. Focal ratio is a little over 4.5. The optics are excellent, and always a crowd pleaser. The scope is truss tube design, following truss tube designs of scopes 15 years ago or so (it's estimated age). The lower assy. is wood, and the mirror box is around 21" wide by 24" tall. Aluminum (welded) triangle braces make up the distance from the lower assembly to the upper assembly. 2" low profile focuser. No eyepieces. Secondary mirror is 3.1". Price includes a telrad. Total estimated weight is 100 or so pounds. No component weighs more than 35 pounds. The very solid design allows this scope to collimate in 1 to 3 minutes if I am alone, less than 1 minute if someone else is present.
The mirror has a chip on the edge, about the size of a small fingernail clipping. This does not affect the image.
Scope is in Brentwood, east of Antioch, Calif. Respond by email, or call 925-240-7556. Due to size and weight, pickup or fairly local meeting place is needed.
$2200.00. Please call or email with questions. Thanks, Tom.
