I've decided to part with my partly-homebrewed alt/az GOTO mount. The alt/az head started life as a Meade DS EC series mount. I scrapped the wimpy aluminum legs in favor of adjustable wooden legs with heavy feet. I had a local machine shop fabricate a bracket (1/4" aluminum) that allows the mounting of any small scope. Included are both the Autostar 495 computer (1400 object dbase) and the standard electronic controller for quick sessions. Stability is fine for visual use (about 4 second vibrational damping at 200X with my Stellarvue 80mm f9.4, ~ 8 lbs). No dead-zone near zenith; it goes all the way up.
This mount will work well for any small scope (refractor; Mak/Cass); mine is fairly long/heavy. It could handle a 102m (4") as equipped but probably only for low/medium power; the head/drives are up to the task, but you'd need beefier legs for more stability at high power. I've used this setup for about 2 years; it's been great. It's just time for a new adventure.
Asking $225 for this versatile mount; I'll pay for UPS shipping. (The scope/rings in the picture are not included.)
