I am selling an 8 inch f16 Cave Astrola. The scope is in very good shape and the optics are excellent. I have just finished tearing it down and cleaning it. The mount shafts and bearings are in great shape. They are round and there is no detectable slop. The RA motor has been acting up in that it runs but the shaft with the spur gear does not rotate. A good electronics guy may be able to fix it or you may need another motor. This is the original Bristal 1rpm motor. The gears themselves are nice and smooth but I have just cleaned them and I have not regreased them yet. The optical tube also has a couple of extra holes in it. This scope has been at a science center scince the early 70's when it was taken as a donation. I am taking it to the swap tables at Stellafane so if you are interested contact me soon and we can meet there on Friday. I am asking $1500 or I would take a reasonable offer. I am selling it because I am going to restore a 60's vintage 10" cave and I am going to upgrade it to a high tech dual drive system for imaging. I do not want to sell this fine historical scope it but I really want to invest in the 10 inch Cave. Contact me by Thursday morning as that is when I leave for Ascutny State Park for the night before Stellafane. I will also throw in a bag of extra stuff from both Cave's with gears, old motors and the original dual axis controller from the 10". If I do not sell it at Stellafane I am going to replace the tube with a new Parks and I will buy another motor and install it. But I will repost it for more. If you want it as is make me an offer before Thursday morning. Meet me at Stellafane and avoid shipping.
