I’m selling my big 14” go-to dob. It is a hybrid of two systems: The Discovery telescopes dobsonian and Gototelescopes tracking.
On the Discovery side, the mirrors are both Pyrex, and the tube is the wooden sonotube design, with a 2” Crayford focuser. The tracking system was purchased from gototelescopes, and it uses ‘Guide’ software, which is installed on the laptop. The laptop gives complete manual control and regulates go-to movement, and you can also manually control the scope via hand pad.
This system is completely mobile, as it runs off of a deep-cycle marine battery. There’s even an alligator clip connection for the laptop.
The scope has always been stored in an air-conditioned environment (at my mother’s house, where there’s not much city light to contend with). I consider the condition of the entire system "like new". I haven’t used it much, because I have a bad back, and this is my main reason for selling. I need to go smaller and lighter.
I honestly haven’t seen a better view out of a scope of 16” or less. Absolutely sharp as a tack, with tracking within .25 arc seconds of target. It could certainly be used for serious astrophotography. This is a dream scope, but unfortunately not good for someone with a bad back.
Here’s what is included:
Complete Discovery 14” Dobsonian scope, with 14” primary mirror, 3.1” secondary mirror, tube, focuser, spider vane, etc.
Complete go-to tracking hardware/software from gototelescopes
IBM 120mhz laptop, with guide software loaded
Marine Battery and charger
Asking $3700, money order preferred.
Shipping not included, buyer pays shipping. Will ship upon receipt of payment.
