100mm, semi-APO triplet objective, ball-bearing crayford style focuser, 2 3/4" focuser tube with 2" back and star diagonal. Adjustable height, birch tripod with walnut mount and tube-ring. Altitude trunions are birch. The tube is lined on the inside with protostar black flocking material and is baffled. The removable dew cap is walnut, also lined with protostar flocking paper.
The clamp ring assembly is split horizontally with two knurled brass knobs, one on each side of the scope. Loosening these finger tight knobs lets the tube slide fore and aft in the rings for perfect balance.
All parts of the OTA and clamp rings have three coats of polyurethane varnish.
The focuser knobs are made of walnut epoxied over turned aluminum inserts. This gives the aesthetic look of wooden knobs with the strenth of the metal inserts. The focuser shaft is made of 3/16" diameter drill rod which runs against a flat milled in the focuser tube and provides very fine focusing control. The focuser tube rides on four ball bearings races and is buttery smooth with no backlash.
The birch trunions ride on teflon pads. The scope lifts off the mount, like a DOB. The altitude goes from horizontal to full vertical. A clamp around the center shaft on top of the tripod lets you raise and lower the scope with just one thumbscrew. You can also raise and lower the legs on the tripod for height adjustment or leveling. The tripod is also designed to fold up for transport.
The dewshield slides off easily and the anodized aluminum objective cell is held in the tube by an aluminum ring and 4, countersunk wood screws equally spaced around the front of the ring.
Very nice scope, nice wide field views, very light and portable, not to mention, a beautiful instrument to display in your study or family room.
Price, with tripod, is $650 Shipped anywhere in the continental US.
