Project cancelled, this will easily hold a 24"-30" equatorial. This is what you get:
Cast polar housing, approximately 18" x 18" x 16", machined flat/square/parallel on all sides,
has internal cross ribs, and 5" holes in opposite ends for the polar shaft.
Also included, 7"ID x 9.75"OD x ~1.75"thick Timkin tapered roller bearing, a $500 value,
for the upper end of the polar housing. Also includes a 4"ID x 7"OD x ~1.5" thick lower
polar bearing, a $350+ value.
And included, 4.25"OD solid x ~30"long stainless steel polar shaft (unmachined).
The casting weighs about 300 lbs (plus or minus). I have some negotiable material that
can be machined as threaded locking collars. This is for sale as local pickup from
the Bay Area of California (near San Jose). I could also ship this, but it will require
a wooden pallett and freight and probably would cost at least $200+ for shipping,
inquire about shipping options.
The casting is machined, and requires a pier or wedge. The shaft material is not yet
machined, but is very close to the correct size, so little machining is needed. You
will also need to make bearing housings, which is very easy considering that the polar
housing is machined flat, and has mounting holes already tapped into it.
Asking $1600 or any reasonable offer. The polar casting alone is worth $5000, you can't
get one made for less than this. Add the bearings and shaft material and you have a
