Extremely rare brass refractor built by Jos. Dann in Cincinnait, Ohio in 1908, as inscribed in a beautifully scrolled inscription on the baseplate of the OTA. The quality of this telescope truly rivals a Clark both optically and mechanically. The doublet lens is clean, clear, and completely undamaged.
This telescope has been completely restored with attention to original detail. This gleaming brass OTA comes with standard 1 ¼” eyepiece holder, and I am including a custom-made adapter to allow use of 2” eyepieces.
Telescope also comes with original German Equatorial head with 6” brass drive gear and the original wood-and-bronze saddle and rings.
There is no original tripod or pier. I have been using this scope on my Astro-Physics 800 GEM with A-P pier and I will include these in the purchase. Also included is a custom-made hardwood and brass carrying case.
I have studied Don Yier’s Scientific Auction results for the past 12 years and I know that this instrument would sell for a minimum of $20,000. I will consider offers in this range and I will sell to the highest bidder by June 1, 2003.
I am currently away from the telescope. If you are a serious buyer, I will arrange for additional photos to be taken.
