Sick and tired of fighting with an inferior wedge? Randy Marsden custom built this Ulti-Wedge with bubble level for a LX200 tripod. He has graciously volunteered to answer any questions regarding this wedge!

The Ulti-Wedge uses industrial bearings and bushings at all load-bearing pivots to virtually eliminate backlash. The novel design of the altitude mechanism provides a factor of five finer adjustment than is available with other commercially available wedge designs. It also provides a large mechanical advantage that significantly reduces the force needed to make an adjustment, so your alignments are smoother and more accurate.

The azimuth adjustment mechanism is also unique in its ease of adjustment with nearly complete elimination of backlash - a major problem in most wedge designs.

It could be easily adapted for use on a pier or any tripod. This wedge is a joy to work with and will eliminate most of the pain and suffering associated with polar aligning your SCT.

I might add that the wedge is now set up for use within +/- 4 degrees of my latititude (~42.49ÂșN). If you live outside this range, you will have to contact Randy regarding a new altitude lever arm.
