This Heavy Duty Unimount is rated for binoculars up to 12 lbs, but I'm a stability freak and only used it with a set of Takahashi 22x60s weighing less than half that. Sold my Taks and really don't need this beautiful mount for my 11x80s. For scaling, the arms of the parallelogram are 1.25" box sections.
This is a terrific mount for use from a lounge chair or chaise, in addition to the normal standing position. The 6 degrees of freedom include a pivot point in the horizontal plane between the parallelogram linkage and the altitude axis of the binocular cradle. Couple this with altaz motion in the cradle and the ability to rotate the binos around the tripod adapter post without loosening the adapter, and it is possible to always find a correct, comfortable orientation for the binos instead of craning your neck constantly when viewing seated. It is possible to cover almost half of the sky without moving from the seat - truly decadent! All aluminum, teflon, and stainless steel construction, essentially impervious to moisture damage, and very smooth!
I bought the Heavy Duty Wooden Surveyor tripod from Universal when I bought the mount - it's sturdy, if a little crude. The black paint on the maple wouldn't have been my choice of finish, and it picks up conspicuous scratches too easily, but works well and I don't fret about having it in the field. Bogen adjustable spreader also included.
New, the whole setup, including Universal's Large waterproof carry bag and 15 lbs of counterweight, cost me a little over $800.00 last January. You can view Universal's website to confirm the numbers. My need for cash forces sale.
$650.00 OBO, plus shipping. Would love to find a buyer in southern California and will drive up to 100 miles to avoid shipping hassles.
