For Sale: Superb quality 8" f/8 Mirror. I purchased this several years ago from a party who claimed the mirror was made by Cave about 30 years ago. Through the back of the mirror cell you can see notations made by some kind of permanent marker giving the exact focal length (65.34) and some initials. Whatever the origin, this mirror has excellent corrections. I made a thin bakelite mask for the outer .2 inches for cosmetic reasons. Over the years the edge has acquired a few sleeks from the original mirror clips. With the thin mask you get a perfect edge and no diffraction effects from clips- no clips are required. The mask can be easily removed and the mirror used at full aperture if desired. I remounted the mirror in its original cell on a circular ring support which analysis shows to be much better than necessary. Saturn recently (under 8 out of 10 conditions)was extremely crisp and showed no sign of breakdown through my highest power (approx. 650x). I have seen many optics over the years and this is one of those rare mirrors that really performs. The intra/extra focal diffraction patterns are excellent. The mirror cell will fit tubes of various sizes with the simple extension hardware provided - I used it in 10" I.D. Sonotube. Beral coated. $225 includes shipping and insurance in CONUS.
