I'm not exactly restoring, rather upgrading my 1965 vintage Optical Craftsman 4.25" Newt. I'm looking for counterweights with 1" bore: 5 lbs is ideal, I prefer with a lock screw that can be turned by hand, though in that era they used alan screws.
I'm also lookng for something that looks nice or can be repainted to look nice. My philosophy on this upgrade is not to make this thing look like it looked under the xmas tree in 1965, but to make it look, act and feel like something that I would use for the NEXT thirty-seven years. So: protostar diagonal, AP finder holder, University Optics mirror cell, modern rack and pinion, and so on. typical loaded weight of the upgraded ota will be 6lbs, mabye 7 with heavy eyepieces, and I need about 80% of that = 5lbs.
I would ideally like a 5lb modern stainless steel countereweight with 1" bore OR a vintage counterweight that can be painted to look nice. If you have 5 lb, two three pounders or a four pounder let me know I may be able to work in combination with something else.
thank you for your help.
