Ok, so this may be a long shot. After all, I have heard that no one who gets an LXD 55 is willing to let it go, but I have pretty much decided that I am more of an astrophotographer and really enjoy visual observing most when I am sharing it with kids at a star party. Now don't get me wrong, a big scope is great. But step stools aren't my favorite and they are a nightmare at star parties, so I find myself not going and I have kind of missed it. I am on the never-ending list at my local shop, but I am tired of waiting while my summer is slipping away. (I dislike cold even more than ladders! 8^)
So what I have is a good quality Coulter 17.5" f4.5 dob and most of what is necessary to make it into a kickin' truss tube scope: a smaller secondary, spider and holder, and teflon bearings. What I am looking for is a Meade LXD-55. My first choice would be the ten inch, but I will consider any size as part of a trade. I also prefer the UHTC coatings, but again this isn't a deal breaker, by any means.
I had more details, but the 2,000 character limit got me, so if you are interested, email or call and we can talk. I would probably sell it out right for $1200 plus shipping, but I would rather trade for the LXD-55 because I would just like to get back to the things I enjoy most, astro-snapshots and the kids at star parties. If you have an LXD-55 and suffer from aperture fever, let's talk. I am teaching a space camp this week and driving out to my family reunion every night at dark sky site with my barn door tracker and the big dob, so morning will be the best time to catch me by phone. I will be back on Sunday. Email may be sporadic between now and then.
Thanks for looking!
P.S. If you have an LXD-55 mount or complete setup that you would like to sell for the retail you paid, let me know! Thanks!
