I bought this scope to see if the claims for Mak-Newt performance were true, and they are. Now I want more aperture.
Optics as near perfect as I can tell, the tube has the typical wear marks on the classic Russian paint job. Comes with the 10x50 Intes finder with port for illuminator, the standard 2" Crayford focuser with compression ring eyepiece clamp, and the hinged felt-lined mounting rings.
I built the Dob mount with 18mm 9-ply plywood, finished with five coats of marine gloss varnish. The altitude bearings are the usual four Crazy Ed Teflon pads riding on Ebony Star Formica. There are two guide pads to keep the alt quadrants centered on the base, which also bear against Ebony Star. The 1/2" center pivot bolt rides in a ball bearing. For the azimuth bearings, I found that there was too much friction using the standard three Teflon pads bearing on Ebony Star, so I replaced two of the three pads with precision ball bearings - now there's just enough friction.
