Due to the flood of requests for information, here is a photo of the Safari dobsonian. More are available via email.
The scope is less the 18"F4.5 primary. It was reviewed in the '94 edition of Star Ware, where it was noted that it moves smoothly but fiberglass is not as stiff as apple-ply. Also it is weather resistant and develops stress cracks.
Complete truss-tube dobsonian set-up for 80" focal length mirror, includes upper cage, Astro-systems Phase IV Crayford focuser, Telrad, Novak spider secondary holder, 3.1" Galaxy diagonal, truss-tubes with fork&knob attachment, mirror box w/integral 9-point mirror cell, rocker box, ground board, all fiberglass, $450, the cost of the secondary and focuser alone. Less Telrad, focuser & diagonal, $200.
The Safari Dobsonian was produced by the man who started the NEAF (according to a recent S&T), who told me 25 were manufactured. Southern California pickup only.
