 Details  Bid History

This auction consists of a “large size” ½ pound Sikhote Alin Meteorite.
This is an iron from the famous meteorite fall in the Sikhote-Alin Mts. in Russia's Maritime Province, near the Sea of Japan in Feb12, 1947.
This is a great specimen with a twisted shape and terrific “character” (see pictures). Classification: IIAB. Measures (approx): 7 x 6 x 3 cm Weight: 266 grams (9 Ounces).

This particular Sikhote-Alin has all of the classic Sikhote-Alin characteristics and is instantly recognizable by meteorite collectors. These meteorites are in high demand and sometimes sell for up to $3 a gram. Larger pieces such as this one are particularly attractive and desirable. This one weighs 266 grams (9 Ounces / over ½ Pound!) and has a “Buy Now” price of $395, which is about $1.75 a gram.

“A flaming fireball as large as the Sun!” That was a quote from an eyewitness description of the meteoritic event that took place on February 12, 1947. The daylight meteor was witnessed by many people in this maritime province of eastern Russia. As the stunned farmers and ranchers looked up, they witnessed an enormous flaming fireball that was changing colors as it made its way across the sky. It had a billowing smoke train, plumes of fire, and disappeared behind the hills on the western slope of the nearby mountains. Witnesses also heard tremendous ear splitting explosions like thunder, windows were shattered, and the shockwave was felt over 100 miles away. The event was captured by an Artist that happened to be outdoors preparing to paint a landscape painting. He quickly painted what he had seen on canvas, and he managed to capture the essence of the event in the painting shown in one of the pictures below.

The next day, two pilots were flying over the area and witnessed fallen trees and over 100 small craters in the dense forest that had been formed when pieces of the “Main Mass” of the meteorite exploded in the atmosphere above the ground. The result was a shower of meteorites that had fallen in the surrounding area, embedding themselves in the ground, around the craters; some were even found embedded in the trees!

Authenticity is 100% Lifetime guaranteed and each meteorite comes with a certificate of authenticity specific to your meteorite (not just a generic card like most dealers issue), meteorite care instructions, and some interesting facts about your meteorite.

Sikhote-Alin meteorites are becoming harder to find and prices are going up. They are some of the most interesting and unusual looking iron meteorites you can purchase and should be part of every meteorite collection!

All PAYMENT METHODS ARE ACCEPTED, although Paypal (no extra fee) allows me to ship the meteorite to you immediately.

Priority Mail Shipping to the lower 48 USA States is $6. For shipping to other areas please contact me
