Tell a friend    Printer friendly version This is a precision sliced and polished Iron Nickel meteorite from the famous Campo del Cielo Argentina meteorite strewn field. This meteorite is guaranteed to impress everyone who examines and sees it! This amazing jewel-like meteorite specimen weighs approximately 1.62 Pounds (745 Grams) and was created when a meteorite was cut and 2 sides of it were polished. It also has a dimpled textured surface on the unpolished area and you will find several regmaglypts (also known as thumbprints) which are a highly desirable feature. It has a fantastic pyramid like shape to it and the polished sides have a bright appearance, bordering on a mirror like appearance depending on how the light is reflected. This would look great on your desktop at home or work and would be a great Christmas or Holiday gift for yourself or perhaps a child or grandchild that is interested in astronomy. This piece has a great polish and the shape of the piece is spectacular (please click on all the pictures below). This polished meteorite, because of its 2 sided polish and larger size is something of a rarity. It is an interesting specimen and would be an essential part of any meteorite collection. Meteorite specimens like this are unusual because they are not seen as often as whole or etched meteorites. These are created when the meteorite is cut and polished with diamond cutting and buffing equipment. The process is stopped when the highest possible polish is achieved. The result is this amazing mirror-like finish. Of particular note: this polish is the last stage of preparation prior to etching the meteorite. It can be left in its present polished condition, or it can be easily acid etched at any point in its future, which would reveal cross hatched Widmanstatten patterns… The meteorite also includes a Certificate of Authenticity, an Information sheet detailing the history of the Campo del Cielo meteorite, and their laboratory and chemical composition.
